Just had to pop in for a moment and ask if there is anybody else that is just as completely undone as I am (in the best sense!) by the portion of our study this week that has taken us into Numbers.
OK, that's it.
Just thought I would ask.
Now... back to it!

Meeting tonight at 7pm in the Comment Cafe...
Come Join Us!

Hey Girls! I'll be popping in tonight at 7pm in the hopes of seeing you here and being able to chat for a bit... looking forward to it!
ReplyDelete"...putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility RECEIVE THE WORD implanted, which is able to save your souls."
ReplyDeleteThis verse from James 1:21 kept stirring within my heart as I continued to study through Numbers and looking at this man Balaam. This man had a donkey speak to him, had his eyes opened so as to see the angel of the LORD, had the Spirit of the LORD come upon him, spoke prophetic utterances of the LORD and yet his final end was not the salvation of his soul... he was not a humble man, not a man yielded to the Word of God... he was a man that had experienced MANY encounters with God Himself, yet, the things of this world were ever before him...
Hi Cathie and any of my sisters out there,
ReplyDeleteI am just starting Day 4 and am currently reading Numbers. I have read part of this before when I was helping Bonnie Mcbride with a study on Balaam's donkey for the kids in Sunday School which was the first time I ever heard this story. Will get back to you in a bit.
Hi Cathie.....hi everyone! I'm sorry that I don't get the chance to join you on Thursdays in person. It has been my hope that this would change, but sadly not yet. But I'm with you in spirit!
ReplyDeleteI was in Mexico for 10 days and, although I brought my study with me, I am now sorely behind. But that's ok, because I'm still loving it and still committed! Right now, I'm working on Lesson 3.
For me, I keep thinking of the church of Ephesus and how they had lost their first love. What a powerful statement! I often reflect on the changes I see in myself, from when I first re-committed my life to Christ 10 years ago and who I am today. For the most part the changes are good, but I do see how I too have left my first love in some ways. Very convicting....
Hi Jan, it's so good to see you here! Golly, it kind of feels like the old days for us!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your study, but by no means limit your visit here to Mr. Balaam...!
I've so enjoyed the days leading up to this!
Hi Kate, boy, have you ever been on my heart today! Lots of prayer on you and your family's behalf.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, studying the commendation, the reproof and the warning and instructions to the church of Ephesus has powerful implications for us today.
Thank you for the prayer Cathie. My family and I are in much need of it! We are having difficulties with our 16 year old son and some poor choices that he has been making. I'm feeling very discouraged....I"m feeling like a really lousy mom.
ReplyDeleteKate, last week as we were looking at the church in Smyrna it was quite obvious that testing a tribulation was their lot. It was also apparent that this is the ONLY church that did not get a reproof... why? because their suffering, tribulation, testings had REFINED them!
ReplyDeleteHow about taking the two words "really" and "lousy" out of that last sentence of yours... what you're left with is... "I'm feeling like a... MOM!"
In this you greatly rejoice (being protected by the power of God through faith), even though now for a little while, IF NECESSARY, you have been distressed by various trials, SO THAT (there's that purpose clause!) the PROOF of your faith; being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result int praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ;..."
Love you Kate!
OK girls, I'm done! Off to spend the remainder of this wonderful evening with my husband!
If you liked this, let me know and we can do it again next week!
Love you!
Cathie
Beautiful...thank you :-)

This came in from Wendy this morning via e-mail... thanks Wendy!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy,
I didn't know how to attach this to your reading room comments, but
something I wrote (well, Peter wrote) reminded me of Kate's comment. I
particularly liked reading 1 Peter and wrote a little poem from it, it's
not quite finished, but thought I'd share :-)
Overwhelm Me - by Wendy Southcott
You overwhelm me
With a love I don't deserve
You give me answers to my cries
Before they're even heard (Before I spoke the words)
I look outside
And see you closing in
Your great beauty warms (fills) my heart
And joyful tears begin
In salvation you rejoice
Though now for a little while
It's certain you will grieve
By all your many trials
Your faith it will be tested
Let its worth prove more than gold
Receiving in the end
The salvation of your souls
