Hi Girls! Look at the beautiful reminder that I was given the other day... glorious! There was a day when I would have looked at this and thought about 'Pots of Gold' and pretended that I was Judy Garland, wishing upon a star and waking up where the clouds were far behind me... you know, in that land where troubles melt like lemon drops... away above the chimney tops. But now when I see this beautiful sight my thoughts are filled with the great love that God has for us, of His promises, and His faithfulness.
I've been thinking about the promises of God lately. Like the promise of Him giving us rest...
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NASB)
His promise stands firm, He will give us rest... yet we have a responsibility in this too... it's that we come to Him.
My memory verse for the next two weeks is actually James 1:22-25 (NASB). God would have me to be an effectual doer and not a forgetful hearer! I am to live out the Word that has been placed within me and not simply hear it and delude myself into thinking that this is enough. This is true rest in the midst of living out our days... being yoked together with Him is to cease from striving, to know that He is God, that if He is for us then who could be against us, it's to find rest for our weary souls and to live according to His Word, according to what we have learned from Him.
Coming to Him, taking His yoke upon us, learning from Him and living accordingly... this is when we see the glorious Promise of God bursting through the clouds with a Beauty that takes our breath away.
But prove yourselves doers of the word,
and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer,
he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
for once he has looked at himself and gone away,
he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
But one who looks intently at the perfect law,
the law of liberty,
and abides by it,
not having become a forgetful hearer,
but an effectual doer,
this man will be blessed in what he does.
love,

Cathie - thank you for this - this verse in Matthew is so full of love and compassion. I can feel it washing over me as I read it. Words like gentle, humble, easy and light as opposed to weary and heavy - very encouraging.
ReplyDeleteMy verse is Isaiah 26:3-4
"The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock."
Sally
Thank you Sally, I so want to be an effectual doer of the Word... and the Word says 'Come unto Me'! It's one thing to hear Him say this... it's quite another to do it. And I agree with you, love and compassion speak the invitation!
ReplyDeleteYour verse has ministered to me so many times throughout the years and has shown me how to pray for others as well... when we trust Him, our minds are stayed upon Him, and when our minds are stayed upon Him we are kept in perfect peace... beautiful.
I missed seeing you on Saturday evening, hope to see you this weekend at some point!
Love you!
Through our Bible study we have been studying the fruits of the Spirit and this verse is based on self-control
ReplyDeleteAbove all guard(thought life) your heart, for it is the wellspring of life
Proverbs 4;23
The heart in Hebrew is apparantly
our entire concious person.
Apparently I have not sufficiently learned (in deed, not just word) my last verse to be given a pass to go to the next. Still working on the living out of Ephesians 4:29. Great and gracious God, thank you that my tongue can become an instrument of your grace.
ReplyDeleteJude, I totally get this. Psalm 16:8 verse is still very active and doing it's work within me... to be outworked every moment of my days! This is the Beauty and transforming Power of His Word! Appreciate so much your humility before God and your sisters in this... you encourage...love how you ended on a note of praise and thanksgiving!
