Hi Girls!
Well, here we are, in the very beginning hours of a brand new month... what this month holds for us in the hours and days that yet lie ahead only God Himself can answer. One thing I do know for sure is that God is all about preparing us spiritually for today and for that which yet lies ahead.
As we try and navigate our way through our days here on planet earth, He has promised us that His Word will be a lamp to our feet and light to our path (Psalm 119:105). I don't know about you, but in order to walk through my days, I'm in need of as much Light as I can get, so if God is offering (and He is!) a lamp for my feet (where I am at this very moment) and light for my path (that which yet lies ahead), then I'm all about taking Him up on His offer!
God has also told us that we do not live on bread alone but we are to live on every word that proceeds from His mouth (Deuteronomy 8:3). Just as exercise and good nutritional food is so imperative for the health and well-being of our physical bodies... it is also imperative for us to be partaking of the spiritual nutrients of God's Word each day and our exercise is to be the discipline that this takes.
OK, so in order to keep this as short as possible, here is a basic outline of what this is all about:
1. I'll be posting on the 1st an 15th of each month, between October 1st, 2011 and October 1st, 2012 a verse from scripture that I am committing to memorize over the following 2 weeks.
2. Through the Comment section you will then also share your scripture memory verse that you are committing to memorize over the following 2 weeks. You can do this! The most important thing that I can tell you is just make sure that the scripture that you choose is for you and not someone else (like your spouse or neighbour!). Your selection should be relevant to where you are at the moment... ask God to show you.
3. Participation in the Scripture Memory Verse Team should never be in lieu of actual Bible study. Your Bible study time is essential to your understanding of Scripture and to the knowing of your God.
4. An important part of your sticking with this will be self-discipline. Don't drop out if you get behind, however, make this a commitment that you are willing to keep and stay with.
5. The sharing of our verses plays an important part in our encouraging one another as the day fast approaches. Make sure that you add which translation you are using and encourage your sisters to 'hangeth thou in there'!
6. The above picture is of the spiral that I have used for the last 2 years... it contains all the verses that God led me to commit to memory during that span of time, many times I could not see the relevancy of what He had given... only to find out later the wealth that had been placed within me when I most needed it. I highly recommend that you get your memory verses onto index cards of some kind and carry them with you wherever you go. God said that "He sent forth His Word and healed them"... there are so many 'words' being thrown around these days, from all different directions, philosophies and all manner of devices. Our minds, souls and spirits are in desperate need of some spiritually refreshing healing... you will never go wrong refreshing yourself in the healing Word of God!
OK, I can share more with you later... but for now, here is my memory verse for this 1st day of October, 2011....
"This is my comfort in my affliction,
that Your Word has revived me.
It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that Your Word has revived me.
It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I may learn Your statutes..."
Psalm 119:50, 71 NASB

Thanks for the nudge Cathie - you such a fantastic nudger.
ReplyDeleteHere's my first verse from my time with the Lord today.
I Peter 2:9-10 NASB "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possesion, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: for you were once not a people, but now are the people of God: you had not recieved mercy, but now have received mercy."
Also look at Deut. 7:6-11 - powerful words which bring so much encouragment to the heart.

That's our girl! Now we have TWO for our celebration Memory Verse Team Dinner in October, 2012! Such a powerful verse that God has given you to tuck into your heart, I know you will enjoy the process of praise and meditation that will take place over the next two weeks...
ReplyDeletelove,
Nudgie
I am thrilled to have this beautiful team of two (two hundred? maybe?) to keep myself accountable to in the coming year. This kind of thing lights my fire!
ReplyDeleteHere is my verse:
So Jesus said to them, "when you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do that things that are pleasing to him"
John 8: 28 & 29 (ESV)
O dear there is so much obedience & submission & promise wrapped up in these verses. My heart yearns to be like Jesus in these ways. To do nothing on my own authority, speak only as the Father has taught me and do only things that are pleasing to him. Praise God that in Heaven this will be my reality and praise God that on earth, His desire is to work this out in me.
Jude, I am so pleased that you are joining us!
ReplyDeleteLet us make no mistake... it's never the wrong thing or the wrong time to memorize scripture and surely God is well pleased when His children join together to do that very thing!
You girls have blessed me already and we are only 3 days in!
I couldn't decide if I was joining in or not, but here I am! Since there are several verses I have memorized in the past but never remember the references, and since I'm starting late, I decided to take the opportunity to memorize those references.
ReplyDeleteRomans 8:28 NASB
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
I Thes 5:16-18 KJV
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
I Thes 5:23-24 NIV
Now may God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through; may your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One Who calls you is faithful and He will do it.
"The One Who calls you is faithful and He will do it"... I love it! I also love the fact that in your momentary indecision God makes sure to tuck you into the midst of your Gathering Place sisters... welcome sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteCat - I'm so glad to see you join in. I can relate to having memorized verses without the reference - what a fantastic place to start.
ReplyDelete"Rejoice evermore" - this phrase just jumped out at me. It's quite overwhelming to contemplate.

Ok I know I am late in joining but here goes, my memory verse is:
ReplyDeleteDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable
and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

I decided to read the little book Habakkuk the other day, and the last few verses resonated with me.
ReplyDeleteThis is my verse for November 1st.
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vine,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls
Yet will I rejoice in the Lord,
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
This reminds me that in spite of all the calamities in the world,
my God is in control.
Habakkuk 3:17&18 ESV
