During this class, Sally had asked about 'the waters of Niddah' as she could not find this word referenced anywhere in the Bible. On page 90 of the homework for this session, point (b) reads like this...
"The waters were used for Niddah -
water that was used for the removal of impurities.
This ordinance is mentioned also in Numbers 31:21-24."
In Numbers 31:23 you will see the phrase "water for impurity" - in the original Hebrew language the word for water transliterates as MAYIM and the word for impurity transliterates as NIDDAH. Without getting too deeply into the implications of the word, it is beneficial to our study to know that this term NIDDAH is a Hebrew word that actually describes a woman while she in menstruating or who has not yet completed all the ritual requirements that is associated with her particular time of the month! NIDDAH in its definition actually means separation and is used frequently throughout Judaism to refer to the rules of Jewish law concerning menstruation, but also many kinds of impurity. By taking a closer look at Numbers 31 you will see this to be true!
By the way, I downloaded this class onto my Nano and was so blessed to listen to it all over again as I carried on with my daily doings. I am trying to find a way to make this accessible to you as a podcast to download as well. If any of you already know how to do this it sure would save me some time! Any techies out there?!
Love you!

Thanks Cathie - I was looking up the word water in Numbers 31 "mayim" - but I see I should have looked further at the other descriptive words. Sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Thursday, really enjoying the time together with everyone each week and the accountability it brings to my week.
Sally
You are so welcome Sally, but what are you apologizing for... this is what Bible Study and Fellowship is all about! I'm so glad that you dropped in today to say hi, Monday's are always intense for me as I begin to put together my notes, based on the student homework, for the teaching portion of the class... and I always enjoy when my sisters pop in to say hi! I was able to take a lovely break mid-day to go for a walk on the dykes with Jennifer... I very rarely, if ever, do this on a Monday, but God knew that I just needed that fresh air and fellowship to revive me for the rest of the day!
ReplyDeletelove you,
Looking forward to our time together this Thursday too!
By the way, this may not trip anybody's trigger like it does mine, but I met the loveliest little girl on the dykes called Maggie... her and her siblings had found a whole bunch of snakes living on the grassy bank... Maggie's brother Max let me hold one when he saw how excited I was... I was thrilled! I haven't seen a snake in absolute ages and honestly, being able to hold one was fantastic! It wasn't until little Max made me give the snake back that I realized Jennifer was still up on the 'walking part of the dykes' and didn't seem to be interested one iota in getting any closer to the bank, Maggie, Max, or the snake. She said I should have been a vet!
ReplyDeleteOK, enough chit-chat... back to Hebrews 10!
