So enjoyed our morning together,
we missed you girls that were unable to join with us!
Will be back here later this evening to try and jot down a little of what transpired in our sistership in God's Word...
with love,
5:30 pm Well, I have to say that as I went about with my errands and activities this afternoon I was wondering how to encapsulate this morning for you.
We basically went through chapter 11 and used various places as spring boards into a deeper discussion of Jehovah Nissi. I am going to ask you girls that were there this morning to actually write this post for me this time! Share in the Comment Cafe your take-away value from this morning and we can tag team off of each other in our insights and if it is easier for you or if it is your preference, you can certainly choose to e-mail me your thoughts from this morning and I will pass them along for you when I'm in the Comment Cafe later this evening.

Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI just could not comment on yesterday's lesson. I am still filled with the joy of what I took out of our class. Cathy you probably will be surprised the one thing that really hit me was when you discussed about being troubled before you go to sleep at night and asking each other if you believe God is in control. I have had many a sleepless nights praying to God about a situation but not truly realizing that He is in control and I just need to hand it over to Him and let Him deal with it. I know it sounds so simple but for some reason at night when I am all upset I forget everything. I think today I have told at least 4 people my new revelation! THANK YOU.
I also found it interesting that the flesh is also a spirit that works against our Holy Spirit and that they are constantly in battle. I hope I will remember each time I have a fleshly thought to go to God and ask Him what he is trying to say to me and to ask Him to remove this thought and then remember to praise Him.
One more thing that I learned is that I should praying (lifting up my banner) with someone on a regular basis. I do this with Lorne but I am seeing that I need to find a girlfriend to do this on a regular basis. Edna is great at praying spontaneously with me when I have a need but I see that it must become something I do on a regular basis. Goodness knows where I will find the time for this but I am sure God will help me there.
Wow I could go on but don't want to hog the comment section. Great class yesterday!
Debbie
Hi Girls
ReplyDeleteYesterday was such a blessed class. I felt so encouraged in the group, with so much love pouring out of you Cathie. It was evident that you really had missed us. I think love is foundational as we raise our banner of Jehovah -nissi as He fights the battle of our flesh against the Spirit. Asking God to fight this battle was an important teaching for me. I know I wear myself out fighting my own flesh and am hard on myself when I am not victorious.
It was good to see that this as a minute by minute battle, by your different examples, Cathie...esp. the story about the table grace you gave. ..and the reminder not to hide in denial when painful things happen. And, so important to know that our banner is the cross.
To find "fake it til you make it" to be harmful advice as taught from Ex.17. When we lead people to drink we need a right spirit (Psalm 51:13) and rivers of living water will flow out of us. John 7:37,38. all made sense but perhaps Cathie could speak about this.
Anyway, I keep reading Ro. 8. Hope I haven't confused anyone.
Love to all
Linda
Hi Debbie, Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteit is so lovely to see you both here this evening. I will have to drop in again tomorrow morning to pull up a chair and join in with you, but even just these few moments with both of you, hearing both of your precious voices has blessed me so much. Debbie, to know that you were filled with joy, and Linda to hear that you were encouraged brings me such joy of heart... I'm looking forward to popping back in tomorrow morning!
A summary of what I learned from the Lord thru Cathie's teaching yesterday: (a very sobering yet encouraging lesson – you could sense the Lord’s presence in the room giving us understanding and showing us again his love and mercy)
ReplyDelete1. The name “The Lord my Banner” occurs only one time in Scripture. This is significant .... (Cathie could you add the reason here)
2. Discussion about Psalm 51 – especially verses 10 -13 – Linda has covered this in her earlier post.
3. Exodus 17 - Cathie encouraged us to think about what we do when faced with difficult situations while we looked at how the Isrealites reacted .
Firstly the people quarreled with Moses when there was no water
Then they grumbled against Moses
(How do I deal with difficulties – do I quarrel or grumble, do I wonder if the Lord is with me or do I trust Him, do I go to Him. When I quarrel and grumble I leave room for the enemy)
Moses went to the Lord and the Lord told him to “pass before the people and take with you some of the elders of Isreal: and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile and go” (Keep going forward with godly support around me and hold fast to my banner – the cross) The Lord promised to be before him on the rock at Horeb and water would come out of it that the people could drink ( hold fast to our banner and the Lord will be with us and out of us will flow living water – in any situation, problem or issue hold up His Banner – He always prevails)
The people with their actions were showing that they did not know if the Lord was with them or not. (remember the Lord is always with us, look to Him, trust Him)
Pray this – “Lord make your voice evident to me!”
4. As soon as they received the water they were longing for, Amalek came to battle against them (this will happen in our own lives – as soon as one problem is solved the enemy comes after us .)
Amalek was Isreal’s first and constant enemy – the flesh is our first and constant enemy.
5. Moses went with others who helped him when he became tired and burdened - held up his hands when he could not. (example for us when we are burdened )
6. Romans 8 – the mind set on the flesh is death / the mind set on the Spirit is life (what is my mind set on - the flesh or the Spirit) Also, those set on the flesh cannot please God.
7. Phil 3:3 – true circumcision:
- worship in the Spirit of God
- glory in Christ Jesus
-put no confidence in the flesh
8. Galatians 5:16 – Walk in the Spirit (mind set on the Spirit) and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
9. Christ has already crucified the flesh in us ( do not invite the flesh back in) We cannot conquer the flesh in our own strength – look to Him, keep looking to Him in every situation . We win by denying the flesh at the cross.
10. Verses to look up on our own this week: Eph 5:15-18, John 7:7-38, 1 Cor.10:4
11. Cathie prayed these verses over us: Acts 26:18 & Col 1:9-12
We had an amazing morning in the Word - very hard to describe in words but this is my effort – thank-you so much Cathie for all your beautiful insights.
Great summary Sally! There are a few areas in our study that hit home with me:
ReplyDeleteA) The simplicity of "turning it over to God" because He is in control, not me. I make if complicated by trying to find the answers when He is in control, not me. Why is it so difficult for me to remember to do this daily, hourly, or even minute-by-minute? And to remember that I have a Jehovah- nissi and I am to raise this banner high!
B) I was delighted to learn that I am not alone in my constant battle against the flesh. Like Linda I am very hard on myself when I, once again, fall short. God loves me even though I fall short.
Thank you all for the wonderful time in His Word! What an awesome God we serve!
Jeanne
Goodness! We should definitely be doing this more often, it is so invigorating to hear you girls sharing like this!
ReplyDeleteSally, you are a treasure!
Jeanne you are a delight!

πTo find "fake it til you make it" to be harmful advice as taught from Ex.17. When we lead people to drink we need a right spirit (Psalm 51:13) and rivers of living water will flow out of us. John 7:37,38. all made sense but perhaps Cathie could speak about this.π
The pulling together of these verses came from my own musings regarding the "striking of the rock" in Exodus 17. It was struck for the simple reason that the people were THIRSTY and God purposed that out of the struck rock, water would come out "that the people may DRINK." God was the Real Deal. Only God could have water come out of a struck rock.
It reminded me of John 7:37 where on the last day of the great feast, when the priests were on top of the temple pouring out huge urns of water into the water shoots for the people, Jesus cried out that if anyone was thirsty, they were to come to Him and drink. That whoever was to believe in Him as the Scriptures say, "From their inner most being will flow rivers of Living Water." It goes on to explain that these rivers of Living Water was actually The Holy Spirit that would be poured INTO and then OUT OF those who would believe AFTER Jesus Himself, our EVERLASTING ROCK (Isaiah 26:4) was Himself struck, out of Whom Water would also flow... the Holy Spirit of Whom those who believe could drink.
The danger in the story I told of "fake it until you make it", is that in the faking there is NO WATER... there is NO HOLY SPIRIT. This is where Psalm 51 fits so beautifully in. If you haven't spent time meditating on this Psalm, I really suggest you do so because it is so wonderfully rich, deep and powerful. Verse 10-13 is very revealing to those who may think they can fake it until they make it....
It is only through TRUE salvation and TRUE sanctification by the indwelling Holy Spirit that the joy of our TRUE salvation shines! By which a sustained and willing spirit THRIVES! and here comes the beauty of all this... this icing on the cake so to speak...
"THEN I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You."
Girls, the unsaved need our professed salvation to be the Real Deal and not fake. It is only the TRUE representation of God Himself, by His Spirit in you, that will show the unsaved their way home. They need us to KNOW GOD and be TRULY EXPERIENCING THE JOY OF OUR TRUE SALVATION in order for them to find their way Home.
love you all so dearly,
humbled in the Light of all that He is...
Cathie
Sally that was an excellent summary of our class on Thursday. Thank you so much for putting in the time to write it.
ReplyDeletePS I am still filled with the joy I received on Thursday. It is as if a tremendous load has been lifted off my shoulders!
