Revelation, February 20 Class Audio Podcast

                                         
                                            Hi Girls!  

     Since Cat will be taking the last class of the month next week, 

                    I thought I would put up the Timeline, 

               along with a few of my notes in point form, 
        in the hopes that it may help you in your homework, 
                       regarding Babylon this week, 
and also hopefully aid you in your discussion on Thursday morning.

  

                            So, here you are, such as it is!  

            I have no time to proof and the fonts were acting up 
                       so I ask for your extended grace!

              Scott will be walking in the door any second now,

- The first mention of the word "city" in scripture is found in Genesis 4:17.  This city is only mentioned once in scripture and it was named by Cain after the name of his son Enoch.

- The first mention of a "great city" in scripture is found in Genesis 10:12.  This city "Resen" is associated with Nimrod and is only mentioned ONCE in all of scripture.  "Resen" in NOT the "great city" spoken of in Revelation 16:9

- Nimrod built many cities but the BEGINNING of his kingdom was BABEL Genesis 10:10.  This name "BABEL" is only mentioned twice in scripture the other being Genesis 11:9 (it's interesting to note that ALL the cities of Nimrod mentioned in Revelation 11 would become enemies of Israel)

- You can take a closer look at the BEGINNING of his kingdom in Genesis 11:1-9.  Here is a break down of verse 4...

1. build for ourselves (compare with Daniel 4:29-33)
2. tower to reach heaven

3. make for ourselves a name

4. the fear that they had of being scattered abroad over the face of the earth actually came upon them in 11:9

- In Daniel 1:1-2 you see mentioned BABYLON and SHINAR (the land of), they are synonymous.  SHINAR is BABEL (Genesis 10:10 "in the land of SHINAR)

- the first mention of the king of SHINAR is in Genesis 14:1, 9
- you can read about a beautiful mantel of SHINAR in Joshua 7:19-21

- you can read about the remnant from SHINAR in Isaiah 11:11

- you can read about the woman 'Wickedness" and her temple that was built in the land of SHINAR in Zechariah 5:5-11

- Daniel 5:30 "CHALDEAN" this is the same as BABYLONIAN.  CHALDEA was located in southern BABYLON on the Persian Gulf near the Tigris and Euphrates.  CHALDEA is synonymous with BABYLON, they are the same.

- BABYLON is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:11,12,17

- BABYLON is used by God against Israel in Ezekiel 2:19-21

         the reason for this is found in Ezekiel 23:1-49

You might find it interesting to note that there are:
 299 references to BABYLON in scripture;  83 references to CHALDEAN; 7 references to   CHALDEA;  8 references to SHINAR 
                                                                                                                  

As we continue our study this week please remember to always keep before you the following scriptures:  Revelation 20:1-2; Hebrews 11:8-10; 12:22; 13:14; Revelation 3:12; Hebrews 11:13-16
